I had it about 2 or 3 months when it stopped heating. This was great while it lasted. It just didn't last very long. Not a very good record. I think "One Star" is too much for 3 months of work.
We bought this to use in our bedroom because it was small and slender and attractive. We expected it to lift off the base as our large one does. It is fully attached to the cord, making it unwieldy to pick up and pour in a small space. Had we realized that it did not fully detach from the base, we would not have bought it.
I opened this kettle and the button did not work. I called Bodum and they told me to return it. So crappy product and no customer service when there is a problem.
I have to add this review, just to address the concerns of longevity which I read about in some of the other reviews. As the name of the product indicates, it *is* a mini-kettle - I find that the 'Max' level marker corresponds to about 3 mugs of tea or coffee. But for an office, college dorm room, or any other such scenario, this is a fantastic fit. I must say, for a $30 little plastic kettle, I could never have expected this kind of performance. Fantastic buy. But almost 6 years later, it's chugging along every day, and it's now being used 3-4 times a day, by my roommates as well. I purchased this kettle in August 2003, and I have used it *at least* once a day since then for my daily fix of tea. So probably not the kettle of choice for a large family or household.
One other reviewer is right, there are some rust spots on the heating element, but I think that is to be expected on any metal heating element. Moreover, nothing that could not be removed with some sort of descaler, I would expect. The functionality works perfectly - shuts off every time, boils very quickly, and endlessly reliable. A no-brainer.
I have nothing but praise for this mighty little electric kettle. Boil water super fast, and has a very small footprint. Have had no trouble with it in 6 months+.(Note): I use this about 2-3 times a week.
